Privacy Policy

Inknaut Labs operates this website and develops three current products: Dolen, Project RideCast and Project NextUp. Each handles data independently. This policy explains what the website and each product collect, what stays on your device, and when information is sent to third-party services.

This website

inknaut.com does not use cookies, analytics, or tracking scripts of any kind. It's a static site with no accounts and no forms other than a plain mailto link to [email protected]. Our hosting provider may log basic technical request data (such as IP address) as a standard part of serving web pages, the same as any website.

Dolen

Dolen doesn't require an Inknaut Labs account or sign-in, and doesn't currently use analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs. Dolen is designed to minimize data collection: gameplay data and preferences are primarily stored on your device. Internet access is used for a small number of specific features described below: verifying optional Premium access through Google Play or the App Store, retrieving the current daily puzzle calendar, and, only if you choose to redeem one, validating a temporary promotional or reviewer access code.

What's stored on your device

Puzzle progress, statistics, streaks, archive state, and your settings are stored locally in the app's own storage on your device, and are removed if you uninstall it.

Store Billing

Dolen Premium purchases and subscriptions are processed through Google Play on Android or the App Store on iOS, depending on your device. Google or Apple handles your payment details directly, and Inknaut Labs does not receive or store your full payment card information. Dolen receives purchase, subscription, and entitlement information from Google Play or the App Store as necessary to determine whether Premium features should be available on your device. You can manage or cancel a subscription through your Google Play account on Android or your Apple ID subscription settings on iOS.

Service and installation data

Dolen uses a randomly generated installation identifier to support app services and operational diagnostics. This identifier is not derived from device hardware or advertising identifiers, is not linked to a name, email address, or account, and is not used for advertising, profiling, or cross-app tracking. It may be retained in service logs to understand active installations, diagnose technical issues, detect abnormal or repeated service requests, and maintain service reliability. Reinstalling the app or clearing its application data may result in a new installation identifier.

Daily puzzle calendar

Dolen periodically contacts an Inknaut Labs service to determine the current daily puzzle calendar, including when the app opens and when it returns to the foreground. This request sends the installation identifier described above along with the app's platform and version, so the service can distinguish installations from repeat or automated traffic; it does not include an account identifier, advertising identifier, or any other app-provided device identifier, and the service returns the same calendar information to every installation regardless of that identifier. As with any internet communication, infrastructure providers may process technical connection information (such as IP address) as necessary to deliver and secure the service.

Promotional and reviewer access

If you enter a promotional or reviewer-access code, Dolen sends that code to an Inknaut Labs entitlement service, along with the same installation identifier described above, your device's platform, and the app version. Later checks send an opaque access token and that same installation identifier back to the service to confirm your access is still valid. This information is used only to activate, verify, expire, or revoke temporary access, and to prevent reuse or abuse of promotional codes.

Cloudflare

The daily puzzle calendar service and the entitlement service described above are both hosted on Cloudflare's infrastructure, which Inknaut Labs uses as a service provider. As with any internet service, Cloudflare may process standard network and request information (such as IP address) as a normal part of operating that infrastructure. Inknaut Labs does not use either service for advertising or behavioral profiling.

Project RideCast

RideCast has no account or sign-in, and no analytics or crash reporting. It does use your device's location, and it contacts several weather and mapping services directly to do its job:

Location

RideCast uses your device's location (precise or approximate, depending on what you allow) to help build routes, or you can type addresses instead. While you're actively on a tracked ride, a foreground service (shown with a persistent notification, as Android requires) samples your location for the duration of that ride to compare against the forecast. It does not track location continuously in the background otherwise.

Third-party weather and map providers

To get forecasts, routes, and map tiles, RideCast sends requests directly from your device to: the U.S. National Weather Service and Open-Meteo (weather), and OpenStreetMap-based services: Valhalla and Geoapify (routing), Photon and Geoapify (address search), and OpenStreetMap (map tiles). These go straight from your device to each provider; Inknaut does not operate a server in between and does not receive or see this data itself.

What's stored

Saved places, saved routes, ride history, and forecast data are stored locally in the app's database on your device.

Project NextUp

NextUp has no account or sign-in, and no analytics or crash reporting.

Location

NextUp uses your device's approximate location only for features you choose to use, for example adding local context to a search, or setting your current location as "home". Suggested nearby places for an event use a small map database bundled with the app, not your live location.

Calendar and directions

Adding an event to your calendar or getting directions opens your phone's own calendar or maps app directly through Android's standard sharing mechanism. NextUp hands off to that app and does not send this information anywhere itself.

Map previews and event search

A small preview map image for an event's location is fetched from Wikimedia's public map image service, using that event's coordinates. NextUp also includes an optional event-search feature that, when configured with a search provider, sends your search text to Anthropic's API to help find event details. This feature is not active by default.

What's stored

Your events, settings, and anything you import (like a photo or a shared link) are stored locally on your device.

Data sharing

This website, RideCast, and NextUp don't send your data to an Inknaut-operated server: there isn't one for those. Dolen is the exception: beyond Google Play or the App Store processing its optional Premium purchases and subscriptions, Dolen also contacts Inknaut Labs-operated services hosted on Cloudflare to retrieve the daily puzzle calendar and, for its optional promotional or reviewer-access feature, validate an entitlement code, as described above. Where an app contacts a third-party service directly, that request goes straight from your device to that provider. We don't sell personal data, and we don't share it with anyone else.

Data retention

Since most app data is stored locally on your device rather than on a server we control, it stays there for as long as you keep the app installed, and is removed when you uninstall it or clear its storage. Promotional or reviewer-access records for Dolen (the installation and entitlement data tied to a redeemed code) are currently configured to automatically expire after up to 6 months of inactivity, or up to a year from when access was granted, whichever comes first. Once access ends, whether by that automatic expiry or manual revocation, the identifying record is deleted within 30 days. Separate technical records used only to detect abusive request patterns are deleted within 48 hours. Support emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to help with your request.

Your choices

You can grant or revoke location and other permissions for any app at any time through your device settings. Uninstalling an app (or clearing its storage) removes its local data. Purchases made through Google Play or the App Store are managed through your Google Play account or Apple ID subscription settings, depending on your device. Children's privacy

Our products are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information — for example, the right to know what we have, to request deletion, or to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under laws like the California Consumer Privacy Act. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising purposes. Because most of our apps store data locally on your device rather than on a server we control, many of these rights are most directly exercised through the controls already described above — uninstalling an app, revoking a permission, or clearing an app's storage. For anything else, including a question about Dolen's limited service-side data, contact us at [email protected] and we'll respond consistent with applicable law.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this policy if what an app or the website actually does changes. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "last updated" date above.

Terms of Use

By downloading, installing, or using any Inknaut Labs LLC application — Dolen, Project RideCast, or Project NextUp — or by using this website, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use our apps or this website. These Terms apply together with the Privacy Policy above, which is part of these Terms.

License to use our apps

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use our apps on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms, the applicable app store's own usage rules, and any additional restrictions we post. This license doesn't give you any ownership interest in the app or its content.

Our intellectual property

Our apps, this website, and everything in them — including text, graphics, logos, and puzzle content — are owned by Inknaut Labs LLC or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Except for the limited license above, we reserve all rights we haven't expressly granted you.

Third-party and open-source content

Our apps include software components licensed from third parties, including open-source software, each under its own license terms — see the in-app open-source notices screen, where available, for the current list. You agree not to submit or introduce into our apps or services anything that infringes another party's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights, and you represent that anything you do send us (for example, in a support request) is yours to share or you otherwise have the right to share it.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, or create derivative works of our apps, except as permitted by applicable law;
  • Circumvent, disable, or interfere with any security feature, entitlement check, or content-protection measure in our apps;
  • Use bots, scripts, or other automated means to access our apps or services in a way that could damage, overburden, or impair them;
  • Use our apps for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law;
  • Misrepresent your identity or affiliation, including when redeeming a promotional or reviewer-access code; or
  • Submit content or material that infringes the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of any third party.

App store terms

If you downloaded our app from Apple's App Store, the following applies in addition to (and, where there's a conflict, instead of) anything above: these Terms are between you and Inknaut Labs LLC only, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price for the app to you; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Apple is not responsible for any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, legal or regulatory compliance claims, or consumer protection claims, and Apple is not responsible for investigating, defending, or resolving any claim that the app infringes a third party's intellectual property rights — those responsibilities are ours. You must comply with any applicable third-party agreements (like your wireless data plan) when using the app. Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and once you accept these Terms, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.

If you downloaded our app from Google Play, your use is also subject to Google Play's own Terms of Service.

Dolen Premium subscription terms

Dolen offers an optional auto-renewing subscription, Dolen Premium, unlocking additional features described in the app. Premium is available as a monthly plan and an annual plan. Price, currency, and any trial or introductory offer are set and displayed by the app store you purchase through (Google Play or the App Store) at the time of purchase, and may vary by region or change over time — we don't set or repeat a fixed price in these Terms, since the store you buy through is the source of truth for current pricing.

Automatic renewal. Dolen Premium renews automatically at the end of each billing period (matching whichever plan you chose) unless you cancel before the renewal date. The payment method on file with Google Play or the App Store will be charged the then-current price for the next period at renewal.

Billing. All Dolen Premium charges are processed and billed entirely by Google Play or Apple's App Store, never directly by Inknaut Labs. We don't receive or store your full payment card details.

Cancellation. You can cancel anytime through your Google Play account (Android) or Apple ID subscription settings (iOS). Cancelling takes effect at the end of your current paid period — you'll keep Premium access through the end of that period even after cancelling.

Refunds. Refunds are handled by Google Play or Apple under their own refund policies, or as otherwise required by applicable law — we're not able to issue refunds directly for store-billed purchases. Contact Google Play or Apple support for a refund request, or email us at [email protected] and we'll point you the right way.

Restoring purchases. If you reinstall Dolen or switch devices, use the app's restore-purchases option to reconnect a previously purchased subscription by checking your active entitlement with the store you bought it through.

Changes to Premium. We may change what Dolen Premium includes, or discontinue it, on reasonable notice — but we won't take away access you've already paid for during your current paid period.

Recurring billing

Where one of our apps offers a purchase that renews automatically until cancelled, we'll disclose that clearly before you subscribe, and you can cancel using the same method you used to subscribe — in practice, through the applicable app store's own subscription settings. As of the date of these Terms, Dolen Premium (above) is the only subscription any Inknaut Labs app offers.

Restoring purchases

See "Restoring purchases" under Dolen Premium subscription terms above — the same process applies to any current or future purchase made through an app store.

Service availability and changes

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of our apps or services at any time — including adding or removing features — for technical, legal, security, or business reasons. We'll try to give reasonable notice of a material change or discontinuation where practical, but we're not obligated to keep any particular feature forever. If we discontinue an app entirely, we won't charge you for a subscription period you can no longer use.

Termination

We may suspend or end your access to our apps or services if we believe you've violated these Terms, engaged in fraudulent or abusive behavior (including misuse of a promotional or reviewer-access code), or for any other reason at our reasonable discretion, with or without notice. You can stop using our apps at any time. Provisions that by their nature should survive — including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution — will survive termination.

Warranty disclaimer

OUR APPS AND WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON'T WARRANT THAT OUR APPS WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE. SOME JURISDICTIONS DON'T ALLOW EXCLUDING CERTAIN WARRANTIES, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU, AND YOU MAY HAVE ADDITIONAL RIGHTS UNDER YOUR LOCAL LAW.

Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, INKNAUT LABS LLC AND OUR OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OUR APPS OR WEBSITE, REGARDLESS OF THE LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF WE'VE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF OUR APPS OR WEBSITE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID US, OR THROUGH THE APPLICABLE APP STORE, IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100). SOME JURISDICTIONS DON'T ALLOW LIMITING OR EXCLUDING LIABILITY FOR CERTAIN DAMAGES, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Inknaut Labs LLC harmless from any third-party claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising directly from: (a) your breach of these Terms, (b) your misuse of our apps or services, (c) your violation of any law, or (d) content or material you submit that infringes a third party's rights. This doesn't extend to claims arising from our own negligence, willful misconduct, or violation of law.

Governing law and venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Subject to the informal resolution process below, any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of our apps that can't be resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the state courts located in Florida or, where federal jurisdiction exists, the federal courts located in Florida, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.

Resolving disputes

Before filing a claim against Inknaut Labs LLC, please contact us first at [email protected], describe the dispute and what resolution you're looking for, and give us at least 30 days to respond and try to resolve it in good faith — most concerns can be worked out this way. Nothing here stops either of us from going to small claims court, or from seeking an injunction or other equitable relief to prevent actual or threatened infringement, misappropriation, or violation of intellectual property rights.

Severability

If any part of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, that part will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the rest will stay in full effect.

No waiver

If we don't enforce a right or provision of these Terms, that's not a waiver of it. Any waiver has to be in writing to count.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. A material change will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above and, where practical, an additional in-app notice. Continuing to use our apps or website after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
